My apologies to the reader for this delayed post. Internet outages on Sunday and a power outage on Monday caused more problems than I was hoping for. But fear not, for I am back to give both of our readers the movie news they so desperately crave!
Marvel Comics’ The Avengers had a less then impressive opening weekend drawing just $20.7 millions dollars. The film, which is the first attempt at a crossover of this magnitude, has to be considered a huge disappointment. Thor, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, and two Iron Man movies that have put up impressive box office numbers apparently were not enough to draw fans to the theaters.
Wait a second….Did I misplace a decimal? I DID misplace a decimal. It turns out The Avengers scored the most successful opening weekend in film history taking in $207,000,000 (courtesy of boxofficemojo.com) Everything else came in a distant loser.
Here are the weekend’s top 10, rounded to the nearest hundred million:
| Title | Weekend | Total |
| The Avengers | $207,500,000 | $207,500,000 |
| Think Like a Man | $8,000,000 | $73,000,000 |
| The Hunger Games | $5,500,000 | $380,000,000 |
| Pirates! Band of Misfits | $5,500,000 | $18,000,000 |
| The Lucky One | $5,500,000 | $48,000,000 |
| The Five-Year Engagement | $5,000,000 | $19,000,000 |
| Safe | $2,500,000 | $13,000,000 |
| The Raven | $2,500,000 | $12,000,000 |
| Chimpanzee | $2,500,000 | $127,000,000 |

Will Dark Shadows beat The Avengers box office record next weekend? Probably not but for my sake the digitaldailyfix.com’s fantasy movie league I’m going to say YES! YES! YES! YES! YEEEEEEEEES!
