My oh my it’s gonna get intense this last week. With the latest totals this weekend the top two teams are TIED. Hunger Games had a solid finish, but Frozen did enough to leave us in a tie. Hunger games has left the competition, reaching the 30 day mark which leaved Frozen one weekend unchallenged. There are two new releases hitting that could take a hit to Frozen, but given the holiday and the film still high up on the top 10 list, we may see one more lead change to close the season

It is now officially a two team race as The Left Testicle bows out finishing in 7th place. Frozen took the top spot from Hunger Games giving Madea Saves Arbor Day a bit of a boost, but Catching Fire surpassed the $300 Million mark. Now only 6 points separate the two teams as we inch closer to the end of the season. This coming weekend The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug hits theaters and this release will have an impact on how well these two films do for the last few weeks. Madea Saves Arbor Day does get one week more with their film than 1.21 GigaWATTS gets with Hunger games. It will call come down to the wire between these two.

Fantasy Movie League Week 31

  8. The Head Writer of Impact: 125 points (FINAL TOTAL)

This is proving to be quite the wild finish for this season of the Fantasy Movie League. A gigantic Thanksgiving weekend that saw huge take ins for both Frozen and Hunger Games: Catching Fire. So much so that it seems to be a two team race to find out who takes this season’s crown. Current leader Wumbo may lose this season purely on the delay of a few films. Two times the team had to find a new 5th film as their previous choices moved their release dates out of the League’s time frame. With the team’s 3rd choice they went with Oldboy which made the misfortune of opening during this huge holiday. The film failed to open in the top 10, forcing it to an immediate closing.

Combine that 1.21 GigaWATTS huge second week, putting them only 9 points behind Wumbo, and Madea Saves Arbor Day now 14 points behind thanks to Frozen it’s only a matter of time before either team takes 1st place. Hunger Games has proven to be vital to the defending champion, and has been one of the biggest openings of 2013, however, it’s 30 day run ends one week before Frozen’s and that difference could prove to be the deciding factor for who wins in the end.

Meanwhile Thor: The Dark World may move The Left Testicle into 6th place and provide a moral victory for the team.

This coming weekend doesn’t appear to have a film that could topple either top contender, leaving both Frozen and Hunger Games to do battle until at least the 13th when the next Hobbit film releases. It’s going to be a crazy few weeks!

Fantasy Movie League Week 30

  1. Wumbo: 205 points (The Great Gatsby (Done), Fast and Furious 6 (Done), Despicable Me 2 (Done), Escape Plan (Done))
  2. Team Zigglypuff: 192 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  3. C*nt P*nt: 181 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  4. Madea Saves Arbor Day: 173 points (Monsters University (Done), The Heat (Done), Planes (Done), Ender’s Game (Done))
  5. 1.21 GigaWATTS: 171 points (Insidious Chapter 2 (Done), Don Jon (Done), Gravity (Done), Carrie (Done), Hunger Games: Catching Fire)
  6. Son of Fizbitch: 166 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  7. The Left Testicle: 142 points (Turbo (Done), The Wolverine (Done), The World’s End (Done), Rush, (Done), Thor: Dark World)
  8. The Head Writer of Impact: 125 points (FINAL TOTAL)

A dominating weekend by Hunger Games: Catching Fire has jumped 1.21 GigaWATTS to 5th place, 2 points behind 4th, and 10 behind 3rd. The massive opening gave the team a monstrous 27 points. Next weekend will see Old Boy and Homefront debuting, though whether they can topple what may be a long and high dollar run by the Hunger Games sequel remains to be seen.

Ender’s Game came to an abrupt end for Madea Saves Arbor Day as the film fell out of the top 10 a week before it’s 30 day run. Now the team has to put it’s chances for a title behind Frozen. With two films active, and two yet to release we are coming close to knowing who will take the championship.

Fantasy Movie League Week 29

18 11 2013

  1. Wumbo: 205 points (The Great Gatsby (Done), Fast and Furious 6 (Done), Despicable Me 2 (Done), Escape Plan (Done))
  2. Team Zigglypuff: 192 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  3. C*nt P*nt: 181 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  4. Madea Saves Arbor Day: 173 points (Monsters University (Done), The Heat (Done), Planes (Done), Ender’s Game)
  5. Son of Fizbitch: 166 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  6. 1.21 GigaWATTS: 144 points (Insidious Chapter 2 (Done), Don Jon (Done), Gravity (Done), Carrie (Done))
  7. The Left Testicle: 131 points (Turbo (Done), The Wolverine (Done), The World’s End (Done), Rush, (Done), Thor: Dark World)
  8. The Head Writer of Impact: 125 points (FINAL TOTAL)

with only two active movies right now the action is a little slow, but that didn’t stop The Left Testicle from taking 7th place as Thor kept the top spot and climbed over the $100 Million mark. The may have had a chance at taking 6th place from 1.21 GigaWATTS, but their last film will be releasing Friday. That film is this season’s last major blockbuster The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Will that last push be enough for 1.21 GigaWATTS to rise back to the top? Time will tell..

Fantasy Movie League Week 28

11 11 2013

  1. Wumbo: 205 points (The Great Gatsby (Done), Fast and Furious 6 (Done), Despicable Me 2 (Done), Escape Plan (Done))
  2. Team Zigglypuff: 192 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  3. C*nt P*nt: 181 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  4. Madea Saves Arbor Day: 168 points (Monsters University (Done), The Heat (Done), Planes (Done), Ender’s Game)

  6. 1.21 GigaWATTS: 144 points (Insidious Chapter 2 (Done), Don Jon (Done), Gravity (Done), Carrie (Done))
  7. The Head Writer of Impact: 125 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  8. The Left Testicle: 114 points (Turbo (Done), The Wolverine (Done), The World’s End (Done), Rush, (Done), Thor: Dark World)

Ender’s Game may have had a huge drop off, but it still produced enough to move Madea Saves Arbor Day into 4th place. How much the film continues to earn for the team is anyone’s guess, however they still have one more film this month to make that final push in an attempt to take the lead. Carrie’s run came to an end this weekend as it dropped out of the top 10, leaving 1.21 GigaWATTS in wait until November 22nd when Hunger Games: Catching Fire released.

As for the current big release, Thor: The Dark World took the top spot and has The Left Testicle set to move out of last place. The team may not push any further, but at the very least this last film will do a little bit of damage.

We get a one week break before The Hunger games as no remaining team has a release this weekend. Two films active, three remain to be released, and three teams look to battle it out for the top spot.

Fantasy Movie League Week 27

4 11 2013

  1. Wumbo: 205 points (The Great Gatsby (Done), Fast and Furious 6 (Done), Despicable Me 2 (Done), Escape Plan (Done))
  2. Team Zigglypuff: 192 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  3. C*nt P*nt: 181 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  4. Son of Fizbitch: 166 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  5. Madea Saves Arbor Day: 160 points (Monsters University (Done), The Heat (Done), Planes (Done), Ender’s Game)
  6. 1.21 GigaWATTS: 144 points (Insidious Chapter 2 (Done), Don Jon (Done), Gravity (Done), Carrie)
  7. The Head Writer of Impact: 125 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  8. The Left Testicle: 96 points (Turbo (Done), The Wolverine (Done), The World’s End (Done), Rush, (Done))

Gravity reached it’s 30 day limit in impressive fashion, surpassing the $200 million mark and staying in the top 5. Now 1.21 GigaWATTS relies on Carrie, before seeing their final release, Hunger Games: Catching Fire hit later this month. Meanwhile Madea Saves Arbor Day has their sites set on 4th place and Ender’s Game opened in the top spot this weekend, putting them only 6 points away from moving up the ranks.

This weekend will see The Left Testicle’s last and largest release, Thor: The Dark World. With a current rating of 84% and a huge opening in Europe of over $100 Million, the film is set to smash the box office this weekend.

Four teams are left, two films currently active, and 4 yet to release. These are the final weeks of the season and if anyone wants to push for the top, the time is now.

Fantasy Movie League Week 26

29 10 2013

  1. Wumbo: 204 points (The Great Gatsby (Done), Fast and Furious 6 (Done), Despicable Me 2 (Done), Escape Plan)
  2. Team Zigglypuff: 192 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  3. C*nt P*nt: 181 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  4. Son of Fizbitch: 166 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  5. Madea Saves Arbor Day: 148 points (Monsters University (Done), The Heat (Done), Planes (Done))
  6. 1.21 GigaWATTS: 130 points (Insidious Chapter 2 (Done), Don Jon (Done), Gravity, Carrie)
  7. The Head Writer of Impact: 125 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  8. The Left Testicle: 96 points (Turbo (Done), The Wolverine (Done), The World’s End (Done), Rush, (Done))

Gravity finally fell from the top spot thanks to the power of Johnny Knoxville. Bad Grandpa showed the country that Jackass is still popular and with solid reviews backing it the film opened well. The drop to 2nd for Gravity didn’t slow down 1.21 GigaWATTS too much as they took over 6th place from The Head Writer of Impact. This coming weekend will be Gravity’s last and it could be a strong close as the only major release is Ender’s Game and Gravity is expected to pass the $200 Million mark. Meanwhile Wumbo secures 1st place for now as Team Zigglypuff had a strong finish with Cloudy 2, just not enough to take over first. Wumbo may be in danger however as their last film The Wolf of Wall Street was pushed to December, leaving it ineligible for the competition. The championship may ride on what Wumbo chooses as their final film.

This weekend (as we said earlier) is the release of Ender’s Game, the next movie for Madea Saves Arbor Day. The film could prevent 1.21 GigaWATTS from moving up any further based on performance as we reach the final month for the fantasy movie league

Fantasy Movie League Week 25

21 10 2013

  1. Wumbo: 199 points (The Great Gatsby (Done), Fast and Furious 6 (Done), Despicable Me 2 (Done), Escape Plan)
  2. Team Zigglypuff: 184 points (Star Trek Into Darkness(Done), This Is The End(Done), 2 Guns (Done), Smurfs 2 (Done), Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2)
  3. C*nt P*nt: 181 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  4. Son of Fizbitch: 166 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  5. Madea Saves Arbor Day: 148 points (Monsters University (Done), The Heat (Done), Planes (Done))
  6. The Head Writer of Impact: 125 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  7. 1.21 GigaWATTS: 112 points (Insidious Chapter 2 (Done), Don Jon (Done), Gravity, Carrie)
  8. The Left Testicle: 96 points (Turbo (Done), The Wolverine (Done), The World’s End (Done), Rush, (Done))

Wild week for the league as we have two position changes and two early exits. Gravity continues to dominate the box office and combined with the debut of Carrie 1.21 GigaWATTS has claimed 7th place and is already eyeing 6th. Meanwhile the current holder of the 6th position, The Head Writer of Impact, saw their latest film come to an early exit. With Machete Kills dropping out of thr top 10 in only 2 weeks the season is over for the team. Meanwhile the continued strong performance of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 has earned Team Zigglypuff 2nd in the standings. It remains to be seen if they can claim 1st place even for a moment as current leader Wumbo has re-entered the competition with Escape Plan.

6 weeks and 5 films until every team has all films released, though it will take well into December to see final numbers and know who comes out on top. We are inching closer to the end of the season and things seem to be heating up!

Fantasy Movie League Week 24

14 10 2013

  1. Wumbo: 193 points (The Great Gatsby (Done), Fast and Furious 6 (Done), Despicable Me 2 (Done))
  2. C*nt P*nt: 181 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  3. Team Zigglypuff: 175 points (Star Trek Into Darkness(Done), This Is The End(Done), 2 Guns (Done), Smurfs 2 (Done), Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2)
  4. Son of Fizbitch: 166 points (FINAL TOTAL)
  5. Madea Saves Arbor Day: 148 points (Monsters University (Done), The Heat (Done), Planes (Done))
  6. The Head Writer of Impact: 125 points (Man of Steel(Done), Lone Ranger (Done), Kick Ass 2 (Done), Riddick (Done), Machete Kills)
  7. The Left Testicle: 96 points (Turbo (Done), The Wolverine (Done), The World’s End (Done), Rush)
  8. 1.21 GigaWATTS: 88 points (Insidious Chapter 2 (Done), Don Jon, Gravity)

Another wild weekend as Gravity remains in the top spot, dropping only 22% from it’s previous weekend total. The strong word of mouth also pushed the film over $100 Million in it’s second weekend. Meanwhile Machete Kills opened at a disappointing 4th place, unable to gain little more than $3 Million. Team Zigglypuff takes another strong weekend from Cloudy 2 as they attempt to take over 2nd place from C*nt P*nt.

We say goodbye to Insidious Chapter 2 as it reached it’s 30 day limit. The film did stay in the top 10 during that time giving 1.21 GigaWATTS a bonus point. The defending champ is less than 10 points away from moving up in the ranks and given that Gravity continues to be a strong film and the team’s 4th movie debuts this Friday, the chances are strong.
